Gannon storm — a G5 (Kp 9) geomagnetic super-storm driven by a complex sequence of CMEs from active region AR-3664. ICAO SWX severe-advisory in effect 2024-05-09 18:00 UTC through 2024-05-12 06:00 UTC. Polar HF radio severely degraded; aurorae visible to ~25° geomagnetic latitude. Operators reported transient satellite drag spikes and minor surface charging events. Most intense storm since 2003.
G5 — extreme. Widespread voltage control problems; transformer damage possible. Aurora to very low geomagnetic latitudes.
